I have a couple floor lamps from ikea and target. It seems like the wiring is constantly getting messed up. I can't tell you how many of these I've gone through. I want something good quality but reasonably priced. I also don't want anything weird looking- I like classics and mid century modern style. Black/white/silver. Rumor is that Bill Gates used to ask this question (it is a classic) before he hired executives for Microsoft. It is pretty simple in my opinion though, although great fun nonetheless.
There is a room that is otherwise completely empty except for a three desk lamps and a table on which these lamps are placed. You are standing outside of this room and have no means of seeing inside the room except opening the room's door and going in.
Outside of the room, where you are currently standing, there are three light switches that each light one of the lamps inside the room.
By going inside the room only once to confirm your final results, and keeping the door shut at all times, how can you determine which switch turns on which lamp?
Important Note: The challenge is NOT to turn on the lamp, but to figure out which switch turns on which lamp.Note: They are NOT in order.Good God, people! It's a hypothetical situation!!! It doesn't matter that it's unusual for the switches to be outside of the room or what kinds of people with bad intentions might be lurking inside or what kinds of weirdos like to hang out in dark rooms! It also doesn't have anything to do with whether or not Apple is better then Microsoft. It's a hypothetical question designed to test your analytical capabilities, nothing more. Jeez!
