Voting Question: How do you clean the air filter on the Hoover Windtunnel upright vacuum cleaner?

I accidentally threw away the instruction manualI must clarify. I know how to empty out the dirt in the vacuum cleaner. Lol. My problem is the other side has an air filter which I need to clean out and I am unsure of how to open it. There seems to be a knob to twist it but when I do it doesn't unlock. more

Resolved Question: Is a new vacuum worth the money? Id like comments on how your vacuum works for you!?

Ive seen the new models out there, and i own a dyson, but i was looking for something less bulky that fits in places without moving furniture all day <(preferably one that still sucks up dirt from hard floors)>. Ive been comparing prices and reviews on Hoover, Eureka, Dirt Devil, Bissell, and Shark. Unfortunately i haven't had any friends or family that goes new gadget shopping very often so im looking for plenty of input on your vacuum, including how long you've had it, drawbacks, and how often you've had to change/wash the filters to keep it working right. Thanks! ^_^ more

Resolved Question: My vacuum makes my house smell bad?

I have a Hoover Mach3 Vacuum that I bought almost soley for one purpose...i needed it to pick up dog hair. It does an awesome job too. My problem is that the main filter SMELLS like dog! And I know you can wash the two smaller filters but short of washing and probably ruining the main one what can I do about the smell? When I use the vacuum it causes the entire place to reek. I also posted this in cleaning and laundry but i figured people with plenty of experience cleaning up after dogs could help :)figured i should add this. it has cyclonic filtration. and apparently the filters never need replaced. more

Resolved Question: Vacuum cleaner losing suction NEED ADVICE

I've been using a hoover vacuum cleaner for about 5 years or so and now, for about a few months, it's been losing it's sucking power - making it very difficult for me to clean the house when it barely picks anything up. I tried taking the thing apart and cleaning it but so far it has done nothing. I don't know anything about vacuums, but one of my friends insisted that I should change the filter. What do you guys think I should do?By cleaning I meant emptying the hose and washing off the excess in the canister. more

Resolved Question: Most Durable upright vacuum that picks up very long hairs, feathers,?

seeds & little bits of food, bits of broken glass, etc.? (you get the idea). So you see, I need something durable. I'm looking to spend around $100 give or take, but also considering a $219.87 Hoover Windtunnel, or maybe a $178.66 Infinity NV29 No loss of suction bagless upright. And also looking at the ones for under $100. I have a Eureka upright that just doesn't cut it (only the hose sucks really well now and I can't crawl around on the floor all day to use the hose! Replacing the filter didn't make the rest of it work better). We have: 6 birds & 3 long-haired people. Is there anything that will brush or pick up the long hairs (that shorten the lifespan of the vacuum or clogs it) before they get sucked into the vacuum? How long should I expect it to last without having to have it professionally repaired and maintained? more

Resolved Question: How do I get rid of a smell in my vacuum?

Vacuum is a Hoover Z upright w/a HEPA filter. I took it to get the brush roll repaired and when I got it back it has a horrible smell. What can I do to get rid of it? more

Resolved Question: Onn upright vacuum cleaner (Cyclonic CBU4-A)????

I purchased the above vacuum cleaner about 6 months ago, reading the instructions, the HEPA filter requires changing at 9 months. Does any one know where I can get this at because my local ASDA can not help me. The hoover is very good and I would hate to change it due to the extreme suction, which is the best I have seen in that price range. Spot on for removing all the dog hairs from my carpets. Hope some one can help. Has any one else got this vacuum cleaner? What do you think of it.more information My local store has just given me a number 0845 300 7775 First select option4 then select option 3 They just send you a HEPA filter out for free!!! hurray!!! more

Resolved Question: Good vacuum Bissell or Eureka?

I currently own a Hoover I need something you can turn the brushes off for hard floors. I have my eye on the Bissell Healthy home can anyone tell me the pro and cons of them I know someone said their heavy. I also have my eye on the Eureka bag model that got consumer reports (good reviews) and it $100 less.Pros and cons on it. The hose on the Eureka doesn't look long enough for stairs is it? They both have Hepa filters. I've never had a bagless either. Is Bissell worth $100 more?? Please help!!! more

Resolved Question: Can somebody recommend a good, powerful vacuum cleaner?

THe one that we have ( a hoover, upright, with bag) is not very good. When it's on it's very loud, and I've noticed a burnt rubber smell coming from it when it's on for some time. I don't know if there are any new, innovative vacuums, or sturdy and reliable brands out there that has good suction and is not too expensive ($2-300). P.S. Has anyone heard of the H2O turbo vac that has been shown on TV commercials? The price for the unit alone is 200 bucks but with additives like guarantee and shipping and filters the total came out to be close to 500 dollards. I didn't buy it but I would like your opinion of it if you have bought one. more

Resolved Question: Which vacuum??!! Choices are Wertheim 3030T, Kirby, Dyson dc15, Kenmore Progressive 35922???

Please help!! I need a new vacuum and I have decided this time to purchase one that actually does the job it's supposed too! Well, the price! Who would have thought such a mundane thing cost quite this much?! Do I want the Consumer Mags pick (Kenmore)?? or the trendy Dyson which everyone buys but doesn't score nearly so high in ratings but is so funky looking (for a hoover!)!!, the overly priced Kirby (off Trade Me) or the Wertheim from Godfreys which the sales people tell me is as good as the best at less?? Confusing!! I will need to take up and down stairs and the washing element is not so important to me. Upright or pull along?? Bagless or bags?? HEFA filter or not bother?? I would love to focus on more exciting issues so please help me make my decision, palm off the vacuuming on to the children and move on!! Thanks!! more

Resolved Question: Stinky vacuum filter...what to do?

I have a bagless, hoover windtunnel, canister vacuum. I have cleaned out the filter with water and let it dry, and now whenever I vacuum it smells terrible. I tried cleaning the filter again, sprayed it with lysol and it didn't make a difference. It says on the manual not to clean the filter with any soaps or detergents, but just now I did use a squirt of dish soap and cleaned it again. aside from getting a new filter, what should I do? It takes a few days for the filter to dry completely , which is a real pain if I need to use the vacuum in the meantime. It is not a burnt rubber smell or anything like that. It is definitely not coming from the motor or the belt. It smells like garbage. more

Resolved Question: Bagless vacuums - do they all need cleaning filter EVERY time?

Bought a Hoover bagless upright several months ago, and since day 1, my hubby has been begging me to buy a different vacuum. It seems to need its filter cleaned after every single session (and sometimes mid session too!) otherwise suction drops to nothing. Question is, are all bagless vacuums like this or do I just have a crap one? Don't want to spend a fortune but want a decent performance and NOT to have to clean the filter every 10 mins. Will go back to bagged if so. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Do you want the advice I wish someone had given me?

I wish someone had told me to never buy a bagless vacuum cleaner. A few months ago I bought a Hoover bagless, self propelled, wind tunnel vacuum that I payed a lot for because I had had my old vacuum for ten years and I decided to go all out for a new one. What a mistake I should have just brought the wet vac in from the garage. It is a mess to have to empty and by the time you clean the filter you have dust every where. So when you see all the hype about you will never have to buy bags again don't listen. I would rather buy bags take them out and toss them in the garbage than spend all the time cleaning this out and all the mess this makes and I can't wait to try to find the filter that looks like it should be replaced every week I am sure it will cost more than bags. I feel like I have been had I hope you don't get taken to. more

Resolved Question: what is the best upright vacuum in regards to allergen filters, suction power and durability, and ease of use?

I have always used hoover wind tunnels and have been satisfied with their performance...but the last 2 I had were not up to par. Only after a few months of use, they start falling apart. more

Resolved Question: Best inexpensive bagless vacuum, w/ easy filter system?

I currently have a Hoover Widepath 12 amp motor and it is absolutely terrible. Bagless which is great but I hate the filter system. It clogs up and then you have to take it outside and bang it and all this very fine dust comes off. Recently it completely stopped working, won't suck up anything. Replaced the filter totally and it worked for about a month and then stopped again. Is there something with an easier filter system that I could rinse off maybe, something around the price of $100-$150? more

Resolved Question: Does anyone out there have a problem with the Hoover Windtunnel vacuum?

The 'self cleaning' filter on my model will quit spinning and does not clean its 'self'. It worked wonderfully when I first got it 6 months ago but now the stupid filter is making it so it is not picking up with the hose. I have to keep manually cleaning the 'self cleaning' filter. Piece of junk. more

Resolved Question: Where can i get Belts, Filters etc for the Hoover Mach 5 Vacuum Cleaner?????

The Hoover store does not sell anyparts for this vacuum. that is so crazy... I need belts etc. Please Help!!!!! more

Resolved Question: Bagless or bagged vacuum cleaner, what is best?

Okay im looking for a new vacuum cleaner as my latest hoover alyx (5months old) just packed in! It was a bagless and ive read on a website that bagless ones tend to break down quicker as their filters get clogged quickly. So im asking which is better in your opinion, a bagged or bagless? Both suction and costs wise, also i have just adopted a cat, is it worth getting a pets model. more

Resolved Question: Help!!!!!!!!! Vacuum question????????????

I have a Hoover Windtunnel Mach 4.7 vacuum and it shuts off randomly when I try to vacuum the house. I make sure the filter is empty. I dont know what is wrong with it. more

Resolved Question: What is your vacuum cleaners worst enemy besides neglect? Want to NEVER buy another vacuum filter again?

Just a couple of the many tips that I have for vacuum cleaners. So, what's the clogger king? HAIRPINS, BOBIPINS! I service vacuum cleaners and the number one thing I find in the hoses of clogged vacuums are the hairpins that end up lodged sideways there because the spinning brushroller underneath the vacuum separates the pin and everything that follows must somehow travel around the pin. It's usually a small piece of cardboard, or a matchbook cover. REMEDY? Get yourself a magnet and skim the floor first. You can also get a magnetic strip that goes across the front of the vacuum online at any vacuum cleaner parts supplier. Now, for the filters. Hepa's CLOG! FAST! The vacuum cleaner manufactures know this and they screw you out of your money. PERIOD! Hoover uses ELECTROSTATIC MEDIA to make their filters. So you know what they do. 99.97%... SO DO THESE: A TEN PACK OF 4" X 11" ELECTROSTATIC REGISTER VENT FILTERS- cut-STACK-glue COST? $2.79 where? Lowe's in the furnace filter section.Thank You! Now as far as the long blond hair? If you get a carpet rake available at an online store called Hesco ( at hescoinc.c..) they happen to have a very nice carpet rake that has a cool "icee" blue 18" wide plastic front with several flexible metal tines and a wooden handle. I get their catalogs and this rake is on their "big savings type page" I think it is around $15-$16. These rakes work great to pick up hair and other small fuzzy build, especially from brand new carpet. In the end it will save your vacuum cleaner too. While I'm here I'll also mention the best ways to clean your carpet. (the Kirby owner will like this) The BEST way to MAINTAIN a carpet is with a Kirby shampoo set-up on a Kirby vacuum cleaner. If it's very dirty,I clean carpet for a living & use a big heavy SPIN-BONNET cleaner (looks like a buffer- BONNETS are "SLOWSPEED" machines, where as buffers are typically "HIGHSPEED". For the BEST CLEAN always call a company that 1st Bonnets THEN Extracts more

Resolved Question: I'm looking to buy a new vacuum cleaner. please review yours!?

I'm open to any type really, I just want an efficient hoover that I can use to hoover floors and also suck cobwebs from corners with a flexy tube. I'm considering the water filter vacuum since they don't need bags and I hate the mess of bags + they're costly. If you could write down: make of vacuum, age, whether you have pets/difficult dirt, and the pros/cons + whether you'd buy it again. that'll help me make a descision! Thank you!! more

Resolved Question: How do you deodorize a stinky vacuum cleaner?

I have a hoover windtunnel. nice vacuum cleaner, but whenever I turn it on it blows stale, stinky air . I have changed the bag, changed the filter, sprayed it with Lysol and two weeks later it smells just as stale and funky as ever. This started when I was dog sittin a Lab (lots of hair shedding) and won't go away even though the dog has been gone for over a year. more

Resolved Question: Why Does my vacuum makes smelly air when I use it?

And yes.. I have changed the bag recently and cleaned the filters. I have a a older hoover. And everytime I use it I have to open all windows and doors because of the smell. Is there anything I can do, or is it time to throw old betsy out? more

Resolved Question: Hoover vacuums?

I'm down to 3 vacuums: Hoover Elite Rewind & Hoover Mach 3+5. Any recommendations? I like the reviews I see on the Rewind and it has fantastic features and price but I wanted to avoid the filter. The Mach 3 & 5 are closer to a Dyson, without the hefty pricetag. Although, I cannot find any feedback on those two. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: How do you fix a Hoover Windtunnel vacuum that isn't getting suction through the hose attachment?

the vacuum is about two years old. Problem: there doesn't seem to be much suction, expecially through the hose part. I took it apart. checked for objects, put in a new filter in the left hand compartmant, but still very little sunction. Help more

Resolved Question: What vacuum cleaner do you like the best?

Over the years I have had many different vaccum cleaners. Like dirt devil, hoover, rainbow and filter queen to name a few. They all seemed to work OK when they were new, but they all would end up in the same place. The garbage. Rainbow and filter queen seemed to have pretty good longevity though. Recently I purchased a Kirby. It is expensive but well worth it. I really like the dry shampoo system. Being a single parent of two young boys, its very important for me to keep my floors and carpets as clean as possible. Kirby is way in front of the rest. I wish that I bought one long ago. And its guaranteed for life. So what vacuum cleaner works best for you? more

Resolved Question: Why won't my bagless vacuum suck? It's driving me crazy!?

I have a hoover bagless vacuum. Over time it has lost suction. I have cleaned the filter in the chamber next to where all the debris is collected and nothing is stuck underneath it. I don't know much about the mechanical workings of a vacuum and don't want to start tinkering if I don't know what's wrong. Have you had this problem? How did you fix it? I also have a lot of pet hair in my home and live in a dusty climate. Could this be part of my problem? For the love of Tivo and Popeye's chicken, please help me! more

If you have or had any of the 3, could you please give me your opinion on them,, please no smart a$$ answers,, go somewhere else to leave that . Heres my choices All 3 are 12 amp, bagless uprights ::: . Hoover Widepath Foldaway,, , or Bissell Clearview 2 ,, or Shark Roadster with bottom emptying dust cup. I don't know anything about Sharks, but I like the fact that its a bottom emptying dust cup. and the filter can be rinsed off. Resolved Question: How often do I need to change the side HEPA filter on my Hoover Windtunnel vacuum cleaner?

I know about changing the main bag before it's half full. I haven't heard any recommendations on changing the side Hepa filter. Any suggestions? Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Can I wash out the filter from my bagless vacuum??

I have a Hoover Wind Tunnel upright vacuum. I simply love this machine as it takes care of the mess made by three (shedding) corgis, a family of four with assorted guests and all the icky stuff tracked in from life in general. Anyway, I always empty the cannister after each use and even go as far s wiping down the filter with a papertowel as well. This gets most of the built up dirt off, but there is always some gunk left in the top of the filter folds. Does anyone out there know if it can be washed or what I should do to keep it in good shape?? more

Resolved Question: I have a Hoover DustMaster vacuum. Is it worth getting the "Cyclonic filter" for the dust container?

It's an upright vacuum, and I'm going to replace the other filters. This is an add-on filter, and I'm hoping someone else has tried it. I'm very allergic to dust!
